The 5th Global Oceans Conference, which convened on May 3-7, 2010, at UNESCO in Paris, brought together over 850 experts from 80 countries representing all sectors, results in strong Recommendations for national and international authorities in addressing the challenges facing oceans, coasts and islands.
On May 20 each year the European Maritime Day is celebrated. It is an occasion to contribute to a better visibility of the maritime sectors and to recognize the role played by the Oceans and Seas in everyday life. The European Maritime Day 2010 took place on 19-21 May, Gijón, Spain.
