GPP is a tool widely recognised across Europe as having the potential to significantly contribute to a sustainable model of growth for countries and regions, by channelling the huge purchasing power of the public sector worth over 2,3 Trillion EUR towards more innovative and more eco-efficient products and services.
In order to ensure widespread implementation of GPP practices throughout the public sector it is critical to further build up the GPP experience already existing across the region.
Baltic GPP contributes to overcome the insufficient use of innovation potential and low intensity of joint efforts by strengthening knowledge transfer and exchange on various important aspects of GPP. At the same time the project makes use of the good preconditions for demonstrating the linkage between growth, social progress and protection of the environment and demonstrating that quality products, boosting innovation and high social standards can be combined for global competitiveness.
Furthermore, it will explicitly contribute to implement the HELCOM agreement focussing on reducing pollution in the Baltic Sea Region by using the purchasing power of public authorities to reduce the amount of harmful substances such as cleaning agents into the environment.
With its core activities on capacity-building and pilot implementation of innovative and Eco-efficient approaches towards GPP and the product and service groups in focus such as property management, zero emission buildings and cleaning products and services, Baltic GPP contributes comprehensively to the EU strategy for Baltic Sea Region. Baltic GPP is a project within the flagship 8.4 Network on GPP within the EUSBSR.
