New Bridges-Strenghtening of Quality of Life through Improved Management of Urban Rural Interaction

The project is led by the Union of the Baltic Cities and is expecting to run during 2009-2011.

Regions and municipalities are the key actors in managing urban-rural interactions and their impacts on quality of life. The New Bridges project aims to improve the management of quality of life through urban-rural planning. The project focuses on individual preferences and future potentials with regard to residential preferences, provision of services, mobility and accessibility. The project analyses  (via interviews, questionnaires, workshops) the preferences of different population groups and stakeholders, and develops new working methods and pilot models. By applying the multi-stakeholder involvement principle the project will provide recommendations for the coherent and integrated urban-rural planning. To benefit also other city-regions and the whole BSR, New Bridges produces a set of policy and practice recommendations for regional and national level.

The project is currently in the final stage of the Work package 3 under which city-regions have defined their priority challenges. Moving on to Work package 4 partners will implement pilot actions.
