CBSS Director General Maira Mora will be participating in the panel discussion on “A sustainable future for the Baltic Sea – updating the Baltic Sea Action Plan beyond 2021” as part of the 9th Annual Forum of the EUSBSR.
The seminar is organised by the Baltic Marine Environment Protection Commission, also known as the Helsinki Commission (HELCOM).
HELCOM recently published a ‘State of the Baltic Sea’ report which shows that the goal of the Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP) and EUSBSR – achieving and maintaining a good ecological status of the sea – has yet to be achieved. In that line of thought, the panel discussion will focus on the following two questions:
- How does the currently poor status of the marine environment affect the achievement of other goals for the region?
- What issues should be considered in the process of updating the Baltic Sea Action Plan?

Mr Urmas Lips, Co-chair of HELCOM State and Conservation Working Group, Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia
