Baltic Sea Labour Forum Round Table in Gdansk

On 18 November the BHP Hall in the Gdansk Shipyard, a cradle of Polish Independent Self-governing Trade Union “Solidarity” (NSZZ Solidarność), hosted the Baltic Sea Labour Forum Round Table.

The meeting was chaired by Mr Mieczysław Jurek, Head of the Westpomeranian branch of the NSZZ Solidarność.

Mr Jan Lundin, Director General of the CBSS Secretariat emphasized in his welcoming remarks the importance of regional cooperation, aimed at creating sustainable labour market within the Baltic Sea Region.

Mr Grzegorz Poznański from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented priorities and activities of the Polish Presidencies of the CBSS and the National Contact Points of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.

The meeting was moderated by Ms Katariina Röbbelen-Voigt (BSLFmobINIT project).

The Round Table was preceded by a BSLF Steering Committee meeting, where it was decided to approve two BSLF observer status applications, one coming from the Polish Business Centre Club, being a multilevel organization supporting entrepreneurs in Poland and another one from Mr Martin French, Chair of Business, Economics and Entrepreneurship Education in the University of Rostock.

The BSLF Steering Committee adopted a Statement, entitled ‘BSLFmobINIT: New Perspectives through Vocational Mobility’. It refers to a new flagship initiative on labour mobility, being prepared by the BSLF. It shall focus on three main areas:

  1. Promotion of information for employees, employers and relevant institutions;
  2. Fairness in the labour market;
  3. Vocational education, training and lifelong learning.

The idea of the BSLFmobINIT was presented to the participants of the BSLF Round Table.

The meeting also included three parallel workshops:

  1. ‘HelloBaltic’: Information Centre Network in the BSR
  2. Youth employment & vocational education
  3. Information on EUSBSR and EU funds supporting transnational cooperation in the region.
