CBSS at the Baltic Sea Future Congress

Transforming our Baltic Sea Region and Baltic Sea Future Congress – Supporting SDGs and climate at regional level

On 7 March 2018 the CBSS Baltic 2030, in cooperation with CPMR Baltic Sea Commission and Euroregion Baltic, held the event “Transforming our Baltic Sea Region”, a one-day seminar in Stockholm engaging regional politicians interested in understanding how to integrate the principles of 2030 Agenda into everyday planning and concrete action. Participants had the opportunity to reflect on the preliminary results of an ongoing mapping, which reflects on shared challenges for the Baltic Sea Region on the basis of sustainability indicators.

Following up on these discussions, on 8-9 March 2018 Stockholm hosted the second Baltic Sea Future Congress, a platform for innovative ideas and partnership on sustainable development targeted at regional and local leaders. Already in 2017 CBSS Baltic 2030 supported the Congress and Krista Kampus, Head of Baltic 2030 Unit, participated as a keynote speaker. This year the CBSS was an official partner and co-organiser of several sessions.

In the first plenary “Climate change communication and behavioral changes” Krista Kampus, Head of Baltic 2030 Unit, introduced the Baltic 2030 Action Plan to regional and local participating stakeholders and the work of CBSS as coordinator of HA Climate. The second plenary “Climate change adaptation” was moderated by Baltic 2030 and reflect on the ongoing revision of the EU adaptation policy and on how to measure success to achieve resilience to climate change. Finally, cooperation with INTERREG was at the core of the interactive workshop “How can organisations best plan for climate change resilience?”, where participants gained knowledge on best practices in adaptation measures. Finally, “Innovative climate adaptation practices and funding instruments”, joint seminar with INTERREG shared examples from projects on adaptation and financing opportunities.
