The EL-CSID Workshop on “Diplomacy and Development: Trends and Challenges for Europe and Its Partners” seeks to investigate the role of cultural and scientific diplomacy with respect to the foreign policy ambitions of the EU and its member states. Discussion is expected to cover other forms of the ‘new diplomacy’. The workshop is organised by Nazarbayev University, in collaboration with the University of Warwick and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

The presentation titled “Council of the Baltic Sea States: the Role of Sustainable and Prosperous Region in Bringing the Science Diplomacy Forward” is planned during the panel “Becoming Smarter: EU’s science and innovation diplomacy”.

With the example of Baltic TRAM (Transnational Research Access in the Macoregion) project, Ms. Zane Šime, Communication and Research Coordinator at the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) Secretariat, will offer a more detailed view of the science diplomacy component of the CBSS Baltic 2030 Action Plan, a vision of the Baltic Sea Region for a joint implementation of Sustainable Development Goals endorsed last summer during the CBSS Ministerial held in Reykjavík. Baltic Science Network will be highlighted in the context of its support to the implementation of the EU Global Strategy.
