On 31 January 2018, the CBSS Secretariat hosted a delegation from the French Ministry of the Interior’s Centre for Advanced Studies (Le Centre des hautes études du ministère de l’Intérieur, CHEMI). The aim of the visit was for the organisation to learn more about the work of the CBSS, and in particular how the CBSS is working with civil security and trafficking issues. Mr. Janusz Gąciarz, Senior Adviser for Civil Security at the CBSS Secretariat, introduced the history, structure and main priorities of the CBSS, and together with Ms. Nina Jernberg, Policy Officer for PA Secure (EUSBSR), presented the work of the Civil Security team at the CBSS Secretariat. Ms. Vineta Polatside, Senior Adviser and Head of Unit of the Task Force against Trafficking in Human Beings (TF-THB), thereafter described the work and current priorities in the TF-THB, highlighting especially the work with local actors and law enforcement authorities to counteract human trafficking.
The delegation from CHEMI consisted of high-ranked officials from the French police, fire and rescue services, and army. France is an Observer State of the Council of the Baltic Sea States and regularly takes part in briefings and experience-exchange within the activities of the CBSS.
