The XVTH Baltic Sea NGO Network Forum took place on 18-20 May, 2017 at the Duus Museum, Art and Cultural Center of Reykjanesbær. With the ongoing exhibition “Animals Great and Smallˮ, a part of the children’s art festival, the participants were surrounded by art work from a different level ranging from kindergarten to high school. The exhibition lined with the priorities of the Icelandic Presidency; Children, Democracy and Equality, which are cornerstones in Baltic Sea regional cooperation.
The CBSS CSO Chair, Ambassador Guðmundur Árni Stefánsson and the CBSS Deputy Director General, Bernd Hemingway, highlighted the importance of children’s rights, equal opportunity for all citizens and the great need to form a dialogue on the importance of upholding democratic values. Kjartan Kjartansson, Major of Reykjanes Town, Bogi Ágústsson, President of the Nordic Association and Unnur Brá Konráðsdóttir, president of Althingi all gave inspiring speeches on the subject in the honour of H.E. Vigdís Finnbogadóttir.
The 6th CSO meeting under the Icelandic Presidency was held back to back with the Baltic Sea NGO Network Forum. The CBSS Committee of Senior Officials and the CBSS Expert Group on Sustainable Development had a joint working lunch with a presentation of the draft Baltic2030 Action Plan.
