“Baltic Sea Region Urban Forum for Smart Cities” ideas and concept development workshop will be taking place 19-20 January, 2014 in Tartu, Estonia.
As cities play the most important role in the development of the Baltic Sea Region, Union of Baltic Cities Board has together with the Baltic Development Forum and City of Turku taken the initiative to prepare a concept for a “Baltic Sea Region Urban Forum for Smart Cities”. The initiative is financed from the EU Strategy For the Baltic Sea Region Seed Money Facility and is implemented under the Action “Green Economy” of the EUSBSR Horizontal Action Sustainable Development , which is led by the CBSS Secretariat.
The main project will establish the “Baltic Sea Region Urban Forum for Smart Cities”. This forum will play an important future role for enabling urban areas in the Baltic Sea Region to move beyond “pockets of smartness” to becoming genuinely innovative. The Baltic Urban Forum is planned to launch in June 2014.
The Tartu one-day workshop will launch the discussions on the concept of the Baltic Urban Forum. The attendees include municipal and regional leaders and policy developers, business leaders interested in smart cities technologies, financial and development institutions focused on regional development and innovation, together with citizen group representatives.
