Baltic Sea Youth Dialogue

October 15, 2019 – October 19, 2019 all-day
Berlin, Germany

This year’s Baltic Sea Youth Dialogue comes in a creative workshop format as part of the EUSTORY Next Generation Summit “Winds of Change – Transitions in Europe” organized by the Körber Foundation in Berlin, from October 15th to 19th, 2019.

The transitions following 1989 had a huge impact on the states surrounding the Baltic Sea. The fall of the Soviet Union and the following re-emergence of some independent nation states was accompanied by tension, rivalry and struggles for regional hegemony. At the same time, transitions opened the way for new forms of cooperation connecting the regions surrounding the Baltic Sea.

What were the motives of early region builders to engage in the Baltic Sea cooperation?

How was this common space produced and reproduced in the political, economic and cultural sphere and how did it affect people’s lives?

What are the tools and techniques from international politics and diplomacy that get to the roots of the regional cooperation of the Baltic Sea States and how growing together as a region enables the individual states to find regional perspectives on global issues?

The selected participants will be exploring these topics at our workshop “Getting Glocal: The Baltic Sea Region since 1989”.

A detailed programme for the Baltic Sea Youth Dialogue 2019 will be available shortly.
