The CBSS Secretariat led by DG Jan Lundin yesterday received a high level delegation from a major Baltic Sea Region actor – the city of Hamburg (also a federal entity – a “Land” – in the German System). The Hamburg delegation was led by Mayor Olaf Scholz. At the meeting, representatives of the Swedish Ministry of Education and the Norden Association (in its capacity as Horizontal Action Leader for Education and Multi-Level Governance in the EU Baltic Sea Strategy) and the Swedish European Social Fund participated as well, contributing to a constructive discussion on how to increase regional cooperation on educational matters, as well as research policy and labour migration. All agreed there is plenty yet to be achieved in these sectors, involving all countries in the region. Hamburg can offer interesting experience and support in areas such as vocational training and research policy on the basis of its long and successful policy experience on the German and sub-regional level in this respect.
