This year is the third time that the youth-led sustainability movement ReGeneration 2030 held its annual summit. Connecting and inspiring young people in a global pandemic is a tough task, but not impossible for active determined young people. Participation in this year’s summit was possible in local hubs all over the region and virtually.

There were hubs in Stockholm, Mariehamn, Helsinki, Reykjavik, Krakow, Vilnius, Tallinn, Copenhagen, Kyiv, and St. Petersburg. Around 160 participants joined the summit either in hubs or individually. As Regeneration 2030’s strategic partner, the CBSS was lucky to host the Stockholm hub. Participants in our hub came from different countries and travelled from various parts of Sweden to join the hub.

Before the summit started, we took the opportunity to share and discuss the developments in the CBSS youth-centered activities with the participants. Activities in the Regional Identity and Sustainable & Prosperous Region long-term priority areas were highlighted and future opportunities for youth involvemend were outlined.

Kicking off this year’s summit were opening words of inspiration from Jonas Færgeman, prioritising the implementation of SDG 17 (Global partnerships for sustainable development). The highlight of the first day of the Summit was the panel discussion “Young People Leading the Way to a Sustainable Economy”. Young innovators and entrepreneurs from across the Baltic Sea Region shared their experience in promoting sustainable business solutions. The second day of the summit included prominent speakers such as Professor of Economics at the University of Copenhagen and General Secretary of the Nordic Council of Ministers Paula Lehtomäki highlighted the importance of partnerships in industrial sectors and supporting the voices and actions of young people.

The interactive  workshop in local hubs and online also introduced ACTER, a new digital collaboration platform for youth actors that will be fleshed out during the next year.
